Our Aims are to ensure that we can increase food production and keep all our farmers farming. We have noticed many farmers second sons working in the city and horticulture and agricultural students not becoming food growers, this is a tragedy so we can offer a way for these people to be able to grow top quality food in spare buildings and urban settings in industrial units. This can massively reduce food miles and create food security for the UK and as a by-product, it is an efficient, green technology that will create both rural and urban jobs.
As a community spur of Aponic Ltd, we can offer state of the art, enabling technology that will create a low input, high value output method of food production that is scalable and commercially viable with easy entry.
We supply the growing equipment and support to allow unused land and buildings to be used to grow fruit, vegetables, salad crops, herbs and cut flowers without the need to own large acreage of land.
The Aponic system is a vertical, soilless growing system that uses 90% less water than traditional growing yet produces 30% larger yields and 30% faster growth. It is an aeroponic method that hold plants in place in vertical tubes and sprays the roots with a nutrient mix for 10 seconds every 20 minutes. This gives the plants all the nutrient and water that they require and allows air to circulate around to roots to allow maximum oxygen uptake. This boosts the plants ability to produce its natural oils and sugars properly which boost growth rates, yield and flavour.
Because we can create the perfect pH values and nutrient and trace elements, the plants thrive and show vigorous growth. This also means that we can adjust the nutrient values to suit the plants as they mature and need different elements for different stages of growth, to ensure that the plants are always in peak condition.
As it is vertical, it turns acreage into volume and is also water efficient and there is no nutrient run off so all the nutrients are used in growing the crops. Because it only needs 12 volts to run and it only uses that for a total of six minutes a day, the growing systems can be run from a solar or wind powered source and collected and filtered rainwater can be used most of the year.
